Alocasia brisbanensis
Elephant Ears
A native plant with very large, spade-shaped leaves on long, fleshy petioles. Alocasia brisbanensis may grow to a height of 1.5 metres in ideal conditions. During summer, perfumed, greenish-cream coloured flowers similar to an arum lily, appear. Fleshy red fruits follow the flowering period and these are attractive to a range of native birds. Sap from the plant can cause skin irritation for some people.
